Dr. Tan is the current Director of Acoustical Laboratory Pte Ltd.
He was the Lecturer-in-Charge of the Acoustic Laboratory at the Singapore Polytechnic from 1984 to 1997. A graduate of the National University of Singapore, Dr. Tan holds a Master Degree (Major in Acoustics) from the National University of Singapore and PhD from the University of New England, N.S.W. Australia.
His research interests are on acoustics and human environmental studies. His firm focuses on providing services and consultancies in the fields of Acoustics and Environmental Monitoring and Control.
Dr. Tan is an established specialist in these fields and had acted as consultant to organisations including, SMEs, MNCs, government and statutory boards and private individuals in Singapore and the region.
He has worked internationally with many companies and has written articles and papers, contributed to books, presented at conferences, and conducted courses in Singapore and South East Asia.
He is a past secretary of the Society of Acoustics, Singapore and a life member of the Environmental Engineering Society of Singapore. He is also a Singapore Ministry of Manpower, was accredited trainer for the certified noise monitoring course under the Factories (Noise) Regulations, 1996.
He is a member of the working committee on CP 1996, Code of Practice for Industrial Noise Controls, 2002.
Dr. TAN had been approved by the Australian Transport Authority to carry Noise Tests on Motor Vehicles for companies exporting vehicles to Australia and by the Singapore Ministry of Manpower as an approved WHS+ IH Consultant.
